Good news, Brothers! For those of you able to make our September 2010 Masonic trip to Washington, D.C., we’ve just received an invitation from Bro. Jacob Wood, Secretary of Naval Lodge No. 4, F.A.A.M., located in the District of Columbia, to come attend their first Lodge meeting in September.

We’ll be dining with our Brothers from this Lodge and then attending their meeting where they have planned a special program entitled, Mozart is Dead: Modern Masonic Influence in Music and the Arts by Brothers Peter Mott and Tom Caldwell.

Naval Lodge No. 4 on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, was chartered May 14, 1805 and currently meets in the Naval Lodge Building located at 330 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE. A bit of history from their web site:

NAVAL LODGE of Masons came into being in the dawn of the nineteenth century, and to the fact of its location in the Navy Yard settlement, or to use a colloquial phrase, “on the Navy Yard” and likewise, perhaps, to the fact that the war with Tripoli had just ended and the country was ringing with the daring deeds of Decatur and his fleet, may be attributed the selection of its name. This latter assumption seems all the more probable because it was in Washington, D.C., that many of the crew from that fleet were discharged, and as a consequence the citizens of the city were brought into closer touch with the naval heroes and their achievement. Tradition, indeed, holds that from this source the Lodge obtained a large accession of valuable membership.

Naval Lodge No. 4 also can be found online on Facebook and Twitter. Come follow the Lodge to get a sense of the Brothers we’ll soon meet. Remember, if you’re even interested in going on this once-in-a-lifetime trip, be sure to get Wor. Bro. Jim Tome a $50 per person refundable deposit by Tuesday, February 16th to reserve a seat on the air plane.
